How do you repair your credit? That's the perfect million dollar question everyone affected by their credit scores are looking for the answer to. It has taken me several years to repair my credit and improve my credit scores with all three credit bureaus.
Let's say I started by gathering all the information about credit as I could. In order to do a do-it-yourself credit repair, I needed to know what my credit reports had listed in it, my credit scores, then develop a plan of action.
Order a credit report from each of the credit bureaus: Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion.
Take a look at it and check for mistakes. Is your name spelled correctly? Is the address listed your current address? How about your employer's address and contact number? If these are incorrect, you'll need to submit a copy of your driver's license or identification card along with a letter disputing the incorrect information listed.
Take a look at all of the credit accounts listed. Are they representing a true balance? Have ever owned that account?
