In order to capture media and political attention to Gonaives, Haiti, music star Wyclef Jean and Hollywood actor Matt Damon toured the flooded streets of the city on Sunday September 14, 2008. Just a about a week ago tropical storm Hanna and Hurrican Ike ravaged the area with heavy rain which caused major flooding and mud slides. According to the Associated Press, Wyclef Jean said of the conditions. "I wish there was a word in the dictionary" and “No human should be living like this.”
Matt Damon and Wyclef Jean are attempting to raise up to $100 million US dollars in charity for needy Haitians. Wyclef Jean’s charity, Yéle Haiti, is also working with the World Food Program and Organization of American States-affiliated Pan American Development Foundation to distribute food to 3,000 families.
